“Ivory miniature case, rectangular shape with rounded corners, opens to reveal on the left a painted watercolour miniature beneath glass of a young woman with light brown hair wearing a pale blue dress with lace collar secured with a gold brooch which appears to be in the form of a knotted snake, and bracelets on both wrists. On the right a hairwork arrangement under glass of flower sprays of cut and laid hair above and below the name Ellen, the letters formed of individual strands of hair with decoration of cut and laid hair. Gilded metal hinge and clasp engraved with foliate sprays.”
