..at the train station, guarding the thickest of fogs (only hours after the last day of summer), stood two figures made from hay stacked high. both dressed as carmen miranda, their 2 sets of eyes stared at me. one set white and manic, the other..yellow and piercing.
small towns, ey?
sucking on coconut & pineapple icy poles, dying my hair a pastel shade of raspberry, embroidering honey-bees with metallic threads, making plans for a potential pet lamb…
doing it like a pro.

remembering past summers, the way love was supposed to be, the water balloon fight with your father (the year before the abuse started), listening to your best friend snoring above you on the top bunk, limp flowers// stealing beer from your parents esky, lying on your back by the harbour, the stars whirring above// collecting cicada castings by torchlight, as your parents got high at backyard BBQ’s// your ear infection medication curdling in the boot of a hot car, drying off on the grass, the constant smell of chlorine.
you see yourself underwater, drowning? did that really happen?
you remember that pink motel room in Miami. It was your first trip overseas. Miami in July with your first love. and you only ventured out after moon was high, and the stray kittens were about, darting in and out of the reeds that line South Beach.
..and back home, a later love, fucking you within a circle of swaying pines at sunset// and in the sand dunes, the sand and cum sticking to your thighs.
..and all this, this morning, while your thighs stick to the beaten leather sofa, and you sit perfectly still, as the heat takes down the pictures from the wall.
(you are going back to the ocean today, you won’t look to the past so much, you hope, while there is a horizon in view).
..it wasn’t the most eventful of days, but i did stock up on green puff paint, faux rose petals, glitter socks and glue-on eyelashes before heading home to the country (so it certainly wasn’t a complete waste)
<3
..my heart racing as i sorted through boxes of lace and crochet and embroidery, over one hundred years old (i am such a geek about things like that), a woman from off the streets playing some of the most beautiful music i have ever heard on the shop’s piano. she said she learned from ear. sunshine and salad rolls on em’s new deck. making plans. ordering dyes for an exciting new project (making making making). playing by the creek and falling in a muddy ditch —- i was pretty determined to get the last of the seasons elderflowers. planting violets and harvesting rhubarb. elderflower cordial in one tub, rhubarb champagne in another.
so my ocean date was cancelled today, and i was pretty devastated, as i had been rolling around in my swimsuit all day yesterday, practising being a beach princess.
….but then, this evening, an angel, that i shall call chris (because that is her name), rocked up in her car with two babes in tow, to take me on a surprise trip to the Blowhole that i have been obsessing about!!! chris doesn’t even read my blog, and i haven’t seen her in months..great hearts desire alike..or something!
anyway, it was soo nice. we shared beers and chips, and made the slippery climb, into the blowhole itself, where there was a rock pool and we could watch the water cascading down the rocks from above. then we drove home through the countryside at sunset, stopping on the way for coffees and saganaki.
it was totally what i needed.
..also, today has been bliss. the weather was perfect, and even though i was at work all day, i walked around singing love songs to myself.
also also, the customers at my workplace are always so amazing and inspiring.
also also also, watching the sunset over creek is the best. pretty in love with life.
making multicoloured, personalised monagrammed pasta for all the best babes.
..and sewing bright batik dresses and drinking way too much coffee and listening to intense tunes.
happy wednesday.
i can’t for the life of me find any clean underwear, so i think i’m gonna just try and sew some..
oh! better photo!
..so i made this playsuit on the weekend, and am pretty please with it. it is the first tailored garment i have ever made, and it’s got heaps pro finishings..it’s not perfect, but i’m pretty happy with it, and learned heaps while making it.
